WORSHIP

St. Matthew offers many opportunities for worship. Two Sunday morning services are provided to meet the needs of this active congregation. Children, youth, and adults all participate regularly along with special vocal and instrumental contributions.
  • 8:30 a.m. - Informal service with Holy Communion
  • 9:30 a.m. - Christian Education
  • 10:50 a.m. - Modern Traditional Worship Service

Our 8:30 service is more intimate and informal. The piano is used rather than the pipe organ. Holy Communion is served every Sunday at this service.

While the 10:50 service is traditional in nature, it is not stuffy. Special music is provided by the Chancel Choir, GodSong, or Spirit Singers. The pipe organ is used primarily in this service, but contemporary hymns and choruses are played on the baby grand piano. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of every month.

Our 9:30 Christian Education program offers rotational Sunday School classes for Children and Youth, as well as diversified programs for Adults.

MUSIC

The Chancel Choir meets each Wednesday night at 7:00 pm to rehearse an anthem and other service music for the 10:50 worship service. Membership in Chancel Choir includes high school students and adults. No audition is required.

The Spirit Singers, a 12 member ensemble, sings mostly contemporary Christian music. Membership is limited and auditions are required. Spirit Singers perform in the 10:50 worship service approximately every six weeks, as well as Christmas and Easter.

Junior and senior high students are encouraged to sing with GodSong. The group performs in the 10:50 service periodically and for special occasions. Auditions are not required for membership in GodSong.

All elementary children are encouraged to participate in children's music which meets at 9:30 on Sunday mornings in the choir room. In the months leading up to Christmas, music time is dedicated to the Children's Christmas program. After Christmas, the children learn the music that will be sung during the children's worship service. The weeks leading up to Easter, an anthem is prepared for Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday. After Easter, music time is devoted to the songs for Vacation Bible School.

SPECIAL & SEASONAL SERVICES

Special and seasonal services are held throughout the year. Worship services are planned and conducted each year by the youth group, the children and the United Methodist Women. We even have an Orange Sunday in August which features mission opportunities as a kick-off for our Pumpkin Patch ministries. During the weeks leading up to Christmas and Easter, special services are held. A Family Service and a Candlelight Communion Service are held on Christmas Eve. During Holy Week, the week before Easter, a special dinner is held on Thursday evening which represents the last meal that Jesus had with his disciples. A Tenebrae Service (this service symbolizes Jesus's crucifixion by extinguishing candles) is held on Good Friday. Easter Sunday is full of joy and activity. In addition to the two services, we manage to fit in a brunch and an Easter Egg Hunt for children.
