St. Matthew Staff

St. Matthew believes that all of its members are called to be ministers of Christ, but for some of them, it's a full time job!

Rev. Bruce Brotherton, Senior Pastor

Rev. Bruce BrothertonI was born in Chico, California but I was raised in Muskogee and Tulsa, Oklahoma. My Great Grandparents were in the Oklahoma land run. I graduated from Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa, and Oklahoma City University with a double major in Philosophy and Religion. I graduated from the Phillips Graduate Seminary which was then in Enid, Oklahoma with masters of Divinity. Since that time, I have also done graduate work in archaeology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. I am very interested in missions and have served on the conference board for Volunteers in Missions. I am trained as a VIM team leader. I have also been active in the past with the Emmaus Walk and have participated as a speaker at various “Walks” for Emmaus. I enjoy reading, traveling, archaeology, and building scale model ships.

I married my best friend, Tracy. She has a business degree from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Tracy enjoys teaching, the arts, and environmental projects. We have one son, Conrad. Conrad teaches biology and ecology and other “ologies ”at a small Roman Catholic university in western Kentucky.

I felt called to the ministry while I was in high school. After college, I became fascinated with ancient history and archaeology, the study of ancient cultures and societies. When I had a chance to live in Israel for the summer in 1989 and study at the Hebrew University there I jumped at the chance. Since that time, my wife and I have returned to Israel to work on the Western Wall dig in 1996. I have also served as adjunct faculty at Conners State Jr. College at Warner, Oklahoma, Panhandle State University, at Goodwell, Oklahoma, and Redlands College, El Reno, Oklahoma. I have served various appointments all over the state except in the Southeast part. Previous to coming to St. Matthew, I served as the district superintendent of the Clinton District, which is the Southwest corner of Oklahoma. I enjoy people. I believe that it is important for all of us to serve the Lord in whatever way we can. I believe that the best gift to the church is the lay persons who make of the congregation and the gifts and wisdom they bring to the Lord’s work. What a privilege it is for Tracy and I to be here at St. Matthew! Come see for yourself what a wonderful congregation this is with which to grow!
